Sprint racing is one of two Olympic canoeing events (the other being slalom). It takes place on flat water, over distances from 200 metres upwards, in singles, doubles and the awesome four-person crew boats. The large lakes suitable for sprint regattas are few and far between in Britain. Most of the racing is based around five annual regattas at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham.

Racing is organised into classes according to age, gender and ability. There are a range of distances from 200m up to 10000m and there are events for both kayaks and canoes. Most regattas are held between April and September.

We use the Oxford canal for sprint training, with regular time-trials giving people the chance to improve their times.
